Janet Mayled NAPA
Janet has been a professional artist for 40 years. Janet trained as a textile designer at Manchester Polytechnic. Shortly after beginning her career printing one-off fabric pieces, such as wall hangings and bespoke fashion textiles, she decided to focus on her painting. She has used a variety of media in her works. Janet now predominantly uses acrylics, sometimes combined with other media such as papers and fabric to add depth and texture to her vivid and complex compositions.
Janet records landscapes, still life and urban scenes, but is focusing more on her observations of people going about their everyday activities. Whatever the subject matter, she is looking for captivating compositions which draw your eye through the painting, breaking down elements into patterns, leading your eye from one object to the next, using line, colour and form. Janet records both en plein air and in her studio.
Janet’s work was shortlisted for the British Art Prize 2025 and shown at the Oxo Gallery, London.
She has won several awards for her work, including the Buxton Spa Prize, Blackburn ‘Paint the Town’, Longridge Open, Clitheroe Open, and the Preston Portrait Challenge.
Janet has written three articles about her inspiration and use of materials and published in ‘The Artist magazine’. Her work is held in public, corporate and private collections. Janet’s paintings feature in ‘Manchester through the eyes of the artist’ published by Bloomsbury in 2025.
Janet also holds a PGCE in Further Education and has taught Art and Design in a North West College. She runs workshops and presents demonstrations of her techniques.
